Product Edit Manager

How to Access

You can access the Product:[New] page by clicking the 'New' button on the Product Manager. You can access the Product:[Edit] page from the Product Manager either by clicking on an Product's Title or by clicking the Product's check box and then clicking the 'Edit' button. Both screens have the same functionality.

Description

This is the back-end screen where you can add and edit Products. The same screen is used for adding a new Product and editing an existing Product.

They might be a number of albums which might have downloadable tracks. They might be T-shirts, books DVD's. You create a parent product. If it has no tracks, or associated books or other items. Fill in the Details tab and you are done. Go on to create more products.

If they have album tracks you can add them under the Tracks Tab. If there are several associated products (album, book, DVD or sizes and colours of T-Shirts) you would create each as a Product Item under the Items tag.

The Product's content is edited using the default editor selected in the User Manager - New/Edit. The Joomla! default editor is called TinyMCE.

A number of Parameters can be set for the Product. Metadata can also be entered.

Details Section

Enter the heading information for the Product, as shown below:

  • Title. The Title for this product.

  • Alias. The internal name of the item. Normally, you can leave this blank and Joomla! will fill in a default value. The default value is the Title or Name in lower case and with dashes instead of spaces. You may enter the Alias manually. The Alias should consist of lowercase letters, and no blank spaces are allowed. Use a hyphen (-) instead. The Alias will be used in the URL when SEF is activated.

  • Product SKU. Every product needs a unique identifier. Choose something that gives an aid to what product it is. For example "Gord-09-CD1".

  • Product Price. The price for the product. If you go on to create product items, this price will only be used as a default if an item price cannot be found.

  • Product Discount. You could give this product a discount ($5.00 for example) and advertise that. $5.00 will be deducted from the parent product's price.

  • Published. Whether or not this item is published. Select Yes or No from the radio button group to set the Published state for this item.

  • Artist. Select the Artist this product belongs to You may select multiple Artists.

  • Category. Select the Category for this Product. You may select multiple Categories.

  • Image for listings page. Select an image from images/stories/albums. After you Save or Apply it will show in the preview place. To upload images, either use an FTP program or Joomla!'s Media Mangager under Site->Media Manager.

On the right side of the header area, information about the Product is displayed, as shown below:

  • Reviews. My Muse creates a regular Joomla! section called Reviews and a regular Joomla! Category called Reviews. You can create regular Joomla articles under that Category and they will appear in this select area.
  • Reset button. Press this button to change the Hits to 0.

Read More

  • Read more... This button inserts a 'Read more...' break in the Product. This shows as a red dotted line across the Product. If an Product has a 'Read more...' break, only the text before the break, called the Into Text, will display in Product Listing pages. If the User clicks this link, either the entire Product description is displayed. If you want to insert breaks for an Product shown in an Product Layout, use the Page Break button.

Parameters - Details

This section allows you to enter parameters for this Product, as shown below:

  • Product Physical. Yes, it is a product that will be shipped. No, it is just a placeholder for the tracks.

  • Created Date. When was this product made? You can enter in a date and time or click on the calendar icon to find the desired date.

  • Product in Stock. How many of the items do you have in stock. Only makes sense if you have chosen "Use Stock" for the store.

Parameters - Authoring

These entries are optional. Joomla! automatically creates default entries for these values.

  • Author. Select the Author from the drop-down list box. Default is the current user.

  • Author Alias. This optional field allows you to enter in an alias for this Author for this Product. This allows you to display a different Author name for this Product.

  • Access Level. Who has access to this item. Current options are:

    • Public: Everyone has access

    • Registered: Only registered users have access

    • Special: Only users with author status or higher have access

You can change an item's Access Level by clicking on the icon in the column.
  • Created Date. This field defaults to the current time when the Product was created. You can enter in a different date and time or click on the calendar icon to find the desired date.

  • Start Publishing. Date and time to start publishing. Use this field if you want to enter content ahead of time and then have it published automatically at a future time.

  • Finish Publishing. Date and time to finish publishing. Use this field if you want to have content automatically changed to Unpublished state at a future time (for example, when it is no longer applicable).

Metadata Information

This section allows you to enter Metadata Information for this Product. Metadata is information about the Product that is not displayed but is available to Search Engines and other systems to classify the Product. This gives you more control over how the content will be analyzed by these programs. All of these entries are optional.

  • Metadata Description. Optional Metadata Description for this Product.

  • Metadata Keywords. Optional entry for keywords. Must be entered separated by commas (for example, "cats, dogs, pets") and may be entered in upper or lower case. (For example, "CATS" will match "cats" or "Cats"). Keywords can be used to help Search Engines and other systems classify the content of the Product:

  • Robots. Optional keywords for Robots. Robots are automated software programs that surf the web and catalog web content. If special keywords are desired for Robots to use, enter them here.

  • Author. Optional entry for an Author name within the metadata.

Toolbar

At the top right you will see the toolbar:

  • Preview. Opens a popup window that displays a preview of the Product. This is normally not needed when using a WYSIWYG editor, such as TinyMCE. However, if you are using a plain text editor (for example, the 'No Editor' option), this preview lets you see what the Product will look like when shown on the web site.

  • Save. Save it and return to the main screen of the Manager.

  • Apply. Save it, but stay in the same screen. If you have been working on a screen for a long time and don't want to risk losing your work, pressing Apply saves your work and lets you continue working. If, for example, you lost your Internet connection, your work will be saved up this point.

  • Close. Return to the previous screen without saving your work. If you press Close while adding a new item, this new item will not be created. If you were modifying an existing item, the modifications will not be saved.

  • Help. Opens this Help Screen.





Tracks Section

  • Num. A number generated by Joomla! for the list

  • Checkbox. Select a track's checkbox and click on Edit Track or Delete. To choose all tracks check on the top checkbox.

  • Title. Title of the track.

  • Filename. Filename of the track.

  • Preview Name. Filename of the preview.

  • Order. Displays the order of the tracks. You can change the order in the textboxes then click the small Save icon.

  • ID. The ID of the tracks in the database.

Tracks Toolbar

Just below the tabs you will see the tracks toolbar:

  • Edit. Select a track's checkbox and click on edit..

  • New Track. Create a new track.

  • All Tracks. Create a new product that allows downloads of all the tracks for this product.
  • Delete Tracks. Select a track's checkbox and click on delete to remove the track.

New Track/ Edit Track

  • Title. Title to display for this track.

  • File SKU. A unique identifier for this track.

  • Price. The price of each track.

  • Ordering. The order compared to other tracks.

  • Download Path. Where the file will be stored.
  • Upload. You can upload tracks by FTP to the File Path and Preview Path or click "File Management to upload them one at a time.

  • File Path. Physical path to the directory where the files are kept, as entered in Config section.

  • File Name. The actual file name (for example: my_house_rocks.mp3).

  • File Length. The actual size of the file.
  • Number of downloads. How many times the track has been downloaded. You may reset it here.
  • Preview Path. Path to the directory where the preview files are kept.

  • Upload a preview. Opens the media manager on the preview directory. Once you upload a file, you will have to refresh the tracks page so the file is in the list below.
  • Preview File. Choose from the list .


Items Section

  • How does it work?. To create sellable items we first need an "Item Attribute" that can be different for each item. MyMuse creates a default attribute called "Type" so each Item you create can be of a different "Type". For example you could create an item with the Types CD, DVD, Book.

    The system is flexible so that you could create, for example, an Attribute of "Size" and an attribute of "Colour" and create a number of T-shirt items with different sizes and colours and each could have it's own price or current discount.

  • Num. A number generated by Joomla! for the list

  • Checkbox. Select an attribute's checkbox and click on Edit or Delete. To choose all tracks check on the top checkbox.

  • Title. The name of the Item. You can also click on the name to edit.

  • Pricet. The current price of the item.

  • Discount. The current discount of the item.
  • Type. The type of Item. If you have changed the Attributes this will be the attributes name.

  • Order. Displays the order of the attributes.

  • ID. ID of the Item in the database.

Add/Edit Items

  • Title. The title of the item.

  • Item SKU.A unique identifier for your store.

  • Item Price. The price of the item.

  • Discount. The current discount for the item.

  • Ordering. Ordering for the item compared to other items.

  • Product in Stock. Only used if "USE_STOCK" is turned on in the Config area.

  • Attribute (could be 'Type') Enter the value of the attribute.
